Book Review: Bloodlines

It’s been years since I read The Vampire Academy series and I had to google who everyone was after reading a few chapters of this book. I really enjoyed reading this book even though it was a bit slow to start for me since I couldn’t remember the characters. Sydney is an Alchemist and is tasked with going to Palm Springs to help keep a Moroi safe and she is only assigned to this after she finds out her sister was going to be the one sent. She won’t let he sister be around Keith (another alchemist) because of events that happened in the past so she goes above and beyond to convince the alchemists that she should go instead. It causes her sister to be angry with her but really I think that’s a small price to pay. She is to room with Jill (The Moroi she has to keep safe) and pretend to be a senior in a human school in Palm Springs. She has to pretend Jill, Eddie (Dhampir), Adrian (Moroi), and Keith are her siblings and they have to pretend to have a religion that requires them to go to Clarences (Moroi who is letting Adrian stay there and be the base of operations) for feedings for Jill & Adrian.

Sydney is super smart, and everyone thinks her tattoo is giving her the intellect since almost everyone in the school has been getting tattoos that give you a week long high or strength. Sydney needs to figure out what is making these tattoos do what they’re doing. There’s also the matter of Moroi and humans who keep popping up dead with their throats slashed open and bite marks on their necks.

I really despise Keith, I really wanted him to get killed off by a Strigoi or something just as evil. He acts all nice and civil to Sydney when there’s other people around but he stabs her in the back as soon as he can at every turn. He takes credit for everything that she finds out, and treats her like gum he stepped in off the street. I’m really glad about what happens in the end of the book with him. We also find out who has been slashing throats and draining people dry (humans and Moroi alike). It’s kind of surprising but not really.

I love Adrian!! I loved him in Vampire Diaries and I’m so happy he’s in this series. He needs to get over Rose though. I hope he gets a love interest and it would be interesting if it were Sydney! We’ll see though, Sydney – like all alchemists – think Moroi and Dhampirs and Strigoi are not natural beings and she also has a huge fear of magic.

I want to see what happens with Sydney and her teacher – the witch. Will Sydney be one too?

Onto The Golden Lily!!

I wasn’t free of my past, not yet.

Sydney’s blood is special. That’s because she’s an alchemist – one of a group of humans who dabble in magic and serve to bridge the worlds of humans and vampires. They protect vampire secrets – and human lives. But the last encounter Sydney had with vampires got her in deep trouble with the other alchemists. And now with her allegiences in question, her future is on the line.

When Sydney is torn from her bed in the middle of the night, at first she thinks she’s still being punished for her complicated alliance with dhampir Rose Hathaway. But what unfolds is far worse. Jill Dragomir – the sister of Moroi Queen Lissa Dragomir – is in mortal danger, and the Moroi must send her into hiding. To avoid a civil war, Sydney is called upon to act as Jill’s guardian and protector, posing as her roommate in the unlikeliest of places: a human boarding school in Palm Springs, California. The last thing Sydney wants is to be accused of sympathizing with vampires. And now she has to live with one.

The Moroi court believe Jill and Sydney will be safe at Amberwood Prep, but threats, distractions, and forbidden romance lurk both outside – and within – the school grounds. Now that they’re in hiding, the drama is only just beginning.
