World of Warcraft – My Addons

This post is about my Addons that I use in World of Warcraft. I use soooo many! I’ve tried playing without any addons at all and at level 100 it’s just not doable – especially if you raid. I’ve tried several different Addons during the time I raided in previous expansions and different UI settings, but I think I got it to how I like it now. I have tried some different art sets that put backgrounds at the bottom and frame everything nicely, but it takes away from the graphics of the game so I didn’t stick with them.

Here is what my game looks like while in a raid (click to make bigger):

Screenshot 1

See it looks way different than the normal gaming interface! Here’s a list of the core addons that I cannot play without – even while leveling.

Titan Panel: Titan Panel adds one or two information bars on the top and/or bottom of the screen and allows a framework for extensive plugin support.

I use this addon for so many things. I can track my location, bag space, gold useage on all of my characters, honor points, garrison resources, apexis crystals, etc. There are literally dozens of extra plugins you can get for this addon to track whatever you want. I use:

Garrison Resources
Apex Crystal
Honor Points

I have a few others but I don’t have them active unless I need them. The ones I’ve listed above are the ones that are active all the time. This is the best addon I’ve found that does so many things in 1 bar it’s amazing. You can move the bar to be either at the top of the screen or the bottom and you can also make it to be 2 bars. You can also change the look of it with different skins that come with it. All in all this is my #1 recommended addon to anyone who plays the game.

Z-Perl: Perl, with Extra stuff. Much enchanced from Nymbia’s Perl UnitFrames, and a complete replacement for Blizzard’s default unit frames, including raid frames and raid tools, with little remaining of the original Nymbia code.

As you can see in my screenshot above of what my game looks like you can see the character, target and party frames are drastically different from the default blizzard frames. You can move them anywhere on the screen, change the colours, make the character icon 3D, add percentages, and so much more! I’ve turned off a lot of the defaults that came with this addon, I don’t need 3D images, I like the flat colours that I’m using and I don’t need raid frames or party buffs/debuffs. I’ve also turned off player buffs because I like having those at the top right beside the mini map. I moved my player and target frames closer to my action bars because it’s easier to see when I’m low health and also my targets health. I used to keep them at the top left where the default frames were but I find this is just easier for my game play. I don’t use the raid frames because I’m a DPS class. If I were to play a healer or tank in raids I would be using different raid frames altogether (Grid + Clique addons).

Bartender: Bartender4 is a full ActionBar replacement mod. It provides you with all the features needed to fully customization most aspects of your action and related bars.

Again as you can see in my game screenshot that my action bars are not the default gaming bars. Bartender gives you the ability to move your bars around, add more bars, change the size and add keybinds easier. I’ve increased the size of the buttons, moved my micro menu (all the default buttons for the game) to the bottom right, changed the bags to be 1 button and added side bars as well. This has given me the ability to move the chat screen to the bottom left and make it bigger without taking over part of my action bars space. Great addon for those who want more buttons and don’t like the blizzard art bar in the way.

ArkInventory: Able to see all your items in your bags in one window, same as your bank.

I haven’t really used this addon to it’s full potential at all. I only use it to see all my items in my bags in one window. It just makes everything easier for me to see what I have on hand. I don’t use it for all of my characters though, only my Mage. I will probably enable it on other characters once they hit level 100 and start to do dailies and farm things. It’s supposed to be able to let you see your other characters bags and banks but I haven’t been able to get it to do that yet. It does show if you hover over an item if another character also has it and how many which I really like. With certain items I’ve been collecting I don’t want to purchase the same item on the Auction House if I already have it on my bank alt for example.

Postal: Enhanced Mailbox.

If you do a lot of mailing between characters or autioning like I do you’ll need this addon!!! You can click the button at the bottom of the screen to open all and it does it all for you. No more right clicking on 50 mails to get your gold from auctions or items from friends. This addon is a MUST. It keeps track of who you’ve sent mails to before and it auto completes names. Fantastic addon!!

SexyMap: Enhanced MiniMap.

I got this map so I could hide a lot of the default buttons and add extra things that I liked. I added coordinates to the buttom above the clock because when looking up quests on WoWhead I find that most people will post coordinates to things and if you have nothing to show that you’re stuck. Titan Panel also comes with that option but I like it on my map better. It also looks nice with the blue skin. I think you can change that but I like the default so I’ve kept it that way. You can also right click on the mini map to bring up the options so you can change anything you want.

Scrap: Scrap sells all your junk when you visit a merchant.

This addon is a MUST MUST MUST have. Auto sells all your junk items (greys) whenever you click on a vendor. You can also set it up to auto repair your items when you click on a repair vendor. I’ve set it up to auto repair from my own funds but you can set it to guild repair if your guild has that option. Mine always do but I never repair from the guild unless it’s a guild raid for progression. I’m weird that way but I don’t like taking from the guild for anything unless I have to. That goes for items in the guild bank as well.

Raiding Addons

If you raid you’ll need to get these addons. I’m not going to post descriptions for these because not everyone raids, and they aren’t needed for regular game play. If you’d like to know more follow the links 🙂

Deadly Boss Mods
Omen Threat Meter

Other Addons

This list is other addons I use but aren’t really needed for gameplay. They’re just helpful for the lazy person I am.

Master Plan – gives a nice interface for the garrison missions.
NPC Scan – scans and alerts you to rare mob spawns and keeps track of the Tanaan jungle rares.
Handy Notes – shows all the hidden treasures around the world you can loot.
Handy Notes Draenor – adds Draenor treasures to this addon.
Pettracker – shows you what pets/mounts/toys you still need to collect and what zones they’re in.

Keeping Everything Updated

Since I use SO MANY addons I have to use the Curse Client to keep them all updated. It also has a handy function that lets you auto install addons from their website to your client. You can only install/update 1 addon at a time unless you get the premium version but they install so quickly that it’s not really needed. Unless you have a terrible internet connection that is.

If I’ve missed any addons I may come back and edit this post but for now that’s it. I’m sure I’ve missed a few addons (I am making this post from work after all :P). If you find an addon you’d like my opinion on please feel free to ask! I test out new addons all the time to see if I like them and I’ve actually found a few I want to test out while making this post hehe.

World of Warcraft – My Characters

This post is about my World of Warcraft characters. I love playing World of Warcraft, I took a 2 year break from it and getting back into it has been so much fun for me. During the Pandaria expansion I was so burnt out with doing daily quests (quests that repeat – you guess it – daily) just to get reputation with all the factions and earn tokens for gear that it wasn’t fun for me anymore. I wasn’t raiding (gave that up during Cataclysm expansion because of drama) and spending 1-2 hours a day just doing daily quests was so boring. I also never leveled my other characters to 90 because the zones were boring to me. I did get my Priest to 89 but that was the closest one to my Mage.

My Mage has always been my favourite and the one I do everything on. In past expansions I’ve played my Paladin and Priest for healing or tanking, whichever was needing for the raiding guild I was in. It caused me to resent a lot of people in my guilds because they got to play the characters they wanted, where I always got asked to do something different. Not that I was a bad Mage, I always had good DPS but I was also a good healer and tank. Not to toot my own horn but I can play any class and do well in it…as really anyone should be able to do. As long as you do the research, learn the rotations and pay attention you can play any class in this game well. The only good part about being a healer or tank – automatic que times for Looking For Group (LFG). Oh and a guaranteed raid spot in guilds. Everyone wants to play DPS, no one wants to do the tough jobs, because when a raid or dungeon group wipes on a boss – it’s always either the tank or the healers fault.

Character List

Here is a list of my characters that I have on the server Madoran. I have 1 or 2 characters on Blackwater Raiders but I never play them. I should delete them but I can’t bring myself to delete a level 80.

Nahera – Mage
Zallis – Hunter
Darelina – Paladin
Eldunari – Priest
Keidra – Druid
Mäyrse – Warlock
Gracyee – Shaman
Sttabetha – Rogue
Ishtta – Warrior (on another account that I did Recruit a Friend with and is inactive)

Talda – Death Knight
Teylla – Hunter

Onto my active characters!

I love my mage so much. She’s the first character I’ve ever created and I stuck with her throughout all the expansions, she was always the one I leveled first. I also do all of my achievements on her. I used to collect mounts and pets only on her but since the creation of account wide items I’ve been able to do that on all my characters and not worry about it. Same with some raiding achievements, I’ll have to do them on my Priest or Death Knight when I need to. I’ve transmogrified her gear and I absolutely love it. Took me forever to collect the pieces I needed for this set – I tried farming the dungeons and zones for them but ultimately had to buy them off the auction house…for a lot of gold. I love that her staff looks like a key! I got her from level 90 to 100 in a week, doing 2 levels per day after work – I had no life basically for the first week back into this game.

Zallis is my Hunter that I leveled back in Lich King expansion. I had created her during Burning Crusade but never really leveled her past 40 or so because I got bored. I leveled with a friend who was around the same level and we got to 80 together then I just parked her and played my Mage. I leveled her after a few other characters (which I’ll go into shortly) so playing the same areas was kinda boring but I did do a lot of PVP (Player vs Player) with her. I’m trying to get her to be my second level 100 and she’s at level 94 right now. She’s Beast Mastery because I love playing with the pets, currently I have a Rhino pet active for leveling so it can tank everything for me, but I have a Ravenger and a Fox pet as well. I really want to get a Direhorn pet but I need to get to level 100 to be able to farm the Elites for the item needed to learn that skill easily. I will die in 2 seconds if I take her out there now.

I just recently made her this past weekend, along with my Alliance Hunter Teylla. I leveled her from 55 (which all Death Knights start at) to 60 and then used the free boost that I got from the newest expansion to get her to level 90. I wanted to have an Alliance character to see what it was like from the other side leveling in the new zones and also to help out Hev when she needs it 😀 I also wanted the achievement for having a level 100 of both factions lol. She’s been really fun to play and I love that I don’t die fighting elites the same level as her! My mage would die in 2 seconds flat against an elite her level without help (cloth wearing characters are so squishy!). I joined a guild that’s really nice and we talk on Team Speak when we play. I haven’t been able to find a guild I like on Horde side yet that has active players, which sucks because I like chatting with people while I play.

That’s it for my active players right now, except for a level 17 hunter but you don’t need to see her until she’s high level – which means I’ve kept her and not deleted her LOL. I’ve done that so often with low level characters – just last week I deleted my level 61 Panda Monk because I was bored with her. I’ve deleted a level 80 Death Knight before and a few other level 60 and below characters. You only get 11 spots on a server and 1 spot is taken over by my bank character that has access to a guild bank that I set up. I get so many crafting materials and other items that I want to keep so it just makes sense to have a bank alt. Also all of the bind to account items you can’t destroy because you need them for other characters go to my bank alt for storage. I was debating changing it over to my shaman but I’m not sure I’m going to keep her.

My next post will be able my Addons that I use for the game. I use a TON.
