Book Review: Noble Beginnings (Jack Noble #1)

6 / 6 / 18

I really enjoyed this book!! I needed a break from the romance books I’ve been reading lately and this one was just the break I needed. The book follows Marine Jack Noble and his partner Bear (they mention his real name like 3 times? So I completely forgot it lol) as they’re stationed in Iraq with the CIA. They bitch about being glorified bodyguards and it’s understandable. They quickly get pulled into a conspiracy and a frame up which causes them to have to go on the run once they get back to the states. They don’t know who is involved or how high up the cover ups go but they’re determined to find out.

The only spot of romance is when they go to Jack’s former girlfriend Jessie for help and even then there’s only one kiss and that’s it. So if you want to read this book and think there’s going to be some steamy romance involved…think again! I really enjoyed the technical aspects of the writing and seeing from Jack’s point of view on every situation they’re put in. The ending sets up the next books perfectly and I really want to continue this series!

In March of 2002, while the eyes of the world focused on Afghanistan, Jack Noble finds himself on the outskirts of Baghdad, Iraq. A Marine in name only, Jack is on-loan to the CIA. Normally an integral part of the team, he finds that he is nothing more than a security detail in Iraq.

Jack and his partner Bear have a run-in with four CIA special agents over the treatment of an Iraqi family. Within hours Jack and Bear are detained.

All Jack wanted was to finish his enlistment and move on with his life. All he did was intervene and save a family from unwarranted violence at the hands of four CIA agents. But he soon discovers that he did far more than intervene. He has placed himself dead square in the middle of a conspiracy that reaches the highest levels of the U.S. government.
