Book Review: Silver Shadows

I really enjoyed this installment, we get to see how the Alchemists treat their followers that have gone rogue…and it’s not pretty. I detest the Alchemists after reading this book!!! They’re disgusting and the torture they inflict on anyone who doesn’t believe their doctrine is just horrifying.

Sydney is in isolation for the first part of the book and then is put into the general population. She has such courage and never gives up hope that she will get out of there and plans and schemes even when it looks like there is no hope at all. She finds a way to get the gas they’re filtering into the rooms disabled and helps the other “inmates” get immune to the tattooing so they don’t lose themselves.

Adrian – omg I was so heart broken for him. He falls off the wagon HARD. He goes off his meds and starts using spirit again to try and find Sydney in a dream walk but because of the drugs they have her on he can’t reach her so he starts to drink to combat the spirit use. He meets up with Nina again (we see her in the previous book) and without even realizing it he’s leading her on. I feel so bad for her!! But I am so angry with Adrian for giving up on Sydney. When he can finally gets his head out of his ass and tries to find Sydney again and is successful I don’t hate him as much. Honestly, it’s just showing his weakness and how he doesn’t believe in himself enough to keep trying – I’ve seen some reviews that think he just doesn’t love her enough to keep trying and is all selfish. I mean, true he is very selfish in this part of the book but I can understand it, with his spirit use and being off his meds it’s not surprising he is.

After the breakout and helping all the others escape I’m surprised the Alchemists try so hard to get her back. It seems incredibly weird to me that an organization like that wouldn’t just write her off like they did Marcus, but I guess they’re still on the hunt for him too so it’s not that surprising. I love what Adrian and Sydney do to make sure that they get sanctuary with the Moroi!!!! It’s so romantic and I just love love love it.

When they get to Court it’s kind of hilarious to read everyone’s reaction to what they did, but the end result is awesome. I’m so glad Adrian’s mom sticks up for him and herself FINALLY.
