This book was interesting! Grim Reaper, Death Escorts, Ghost Escorts – my kind of book for sure. Dex (who’s homeless) saves a waitress from being hit by a bus and instead dies himself, gets recruited by G.R (Grim reaper) to escort souls to him. The first soul he has to “escort” is the waitress he saved. He gets money, an expensive house, expensive car, new clothes, etc (oh and a butler!). Even a new “meat suit” so no one will recognize him. He makes the mistake of getting to know her though, so every attempt he has of killing her he screws it up. He ends up falling in love with her and has to race against another escort to either save her (and die himself) or complete the job (and he lives). I hate the other escort, he’s a cocky asshole. The ending of this book was terrible though!! Not a HEA one at all.
This book as a little lack luster for me. The beginning they were both VERY whiny and I just didn’t like them together at all. The villain in this book I figured out right away, it was very predictable. The resolutions for some of the plot lines seemed to happen very quickly except for a few (Neil, Sydney’s dad, the cure). We don’t really get to see any solid research on Spirit and what it can do – including the Strigoi cure and what that means. There was no follow-up with Sydney’s family at the very end, I wanted to see what happened with Zoe and if her dad actually kept up his end of the deal. Also why didn’t Marcus and Sydney fight harder to change the Alchemists?! They made no moves to stop the Warriors of Light either. Just left both groups to do whatever they’ve been doing with just a deal to leave them alone. So selfish!! Also the Vampires knowing what is happening with both groups and doing nothing about it…that made me pissed off too. We also never know what happens with Lissa’s new law that doesn’t require her to have 1 living relative. Nothing is resolved with that!!!
